About Us - Square Haloes

Welcome to Square Haloes, a space created to help individuals wanting to deepen their faith, for those who ask, as I have over the years, who is God, who am I, what relevance does God have to my life?

I also hope to  provide individuals with some resources for leading worship, weekly reflections and online information about the spiritual life.

Why Square Haloes?

A square halo was used in  a few  ancient Christian mosaics to designate a person still living when the mosaic was made, and who was considered holy. Most of us know ourselves too well to consider ourselves holy, and we don’t qualify for a round halo. So the square halo is, I think, a profound visual reminder of a deep Christian truth:  that we are human, living in a flawed and messy way,  (so no round halo!) but we are also touched and blessed by the holy God who cares very much about our lives.

We need to be reminded  that we are part of the eternal plan. And the square halo too, has an echo of ‘a round peg in a square hole’ expression! I think we all feel a little round peggish, and so this blog is for those  who feel ordinary, but who are seeking to further their awareness of God in their lives.

Rosemary Dunn

Rosemary Dunn is an Anglican priest in North Queensland with a background in medieval literature and spirituality. I have been a parish priest, a prison chaplain, a street chaplain, and have experience as a spiritual director and retreat leader. I have a passion for helping people see the richness and relevance of the Bible in everyday life.

In an ever-changing and uncertain world, the power, depth of love and the grace of God who transforms lives, is a treasure to be shared.

I believe that Christianity is both experiential and profoundly intellectually stimulating – but also totally accessible to anyone. God communicates to us all in unique ways.

This blog is an attempt to share some of my ponderings,

Why a Square Haloes Blog?

There are thousands of Christian blogs, why another one? I am writing for those seeking some meaning in a crazy world, and for Christians who want something more than they may have been taught in Sunday school.

Humans are meaning-seeking creatures and we do have questions; some of these reflections try to respond to the many serious questions I have been asked over my years as a priest.

Christianity has a rich and deep spiritual tradition drawn the Holy Spirit and from the thousands of people who have pondered on where God is in the suffering and pain and difficulty of life.

Ancient and medieval texts are not always easy to read, so I want to help make that tradition accessible to more people as I draw on these texts and Scripture to reflect on the reality of human lives.

I invite you to email me with questions about Scripture or the Christian faith and I will try to respond to these.

I also will attach a weekly reflection of the Gospel of that Sunday (according to the Revised Common Lectionary cycle of readings).
